#ROW80 – 2020 – Round 1 – Check-in 13

ROW80 2020 – Round 1 – Thirteenth check-in

Hi everyone!

I’m afraid this is not going to be very writerly because my head is so full of work stuff it’s hard to think about anything else.

I’m making regular progress on my catalogue because it’s a good way to get money into the household, but the uploading itself is really tedious. I look forward to finishing this first step, but I might have to add more courses than I expected as I found a nice alternative for the French and Japanese tests, and it also works for English of course. It’s much lighter to administer than the ones I use (though I really like them because they’re more official and also very well designed, but they may be a bit too official for people who are only looking to learn English for traveling).

This new test is also very modern, which means I could integrate it within my online courses, a nice plus. And the contact I’ve had with the team have been good so far, whereas my former solution for French and Japanese has become expensive and unfriendly over the past 2 years.

I’m talking to the sales rep tomorrow to finalize the deal, but I must confess I’m already convinced.

Other than that, today was full of work stuff too, which made me sacrifice some writing goals again. Tomorrow should be better, and at least the new contracts help me sleep better after a slow start of the year!

How about you? Is the day work on your mind a lot at the moment? Let me know in the comments! I hope you’re well, wherever you are. ^^

Finally royal blue is for comments on my progress since I last checked in. And sky blue is for stating my objective for the round within each goal at the beginning of each Round, then to assess my overall progress at the end.
Also, by the end of each round, I’ll give myself a PASS or a FAIL for each goal.
I hope you’ll enjoy these rainbow posts. 😉

Writing goals (fiction & poetry)

  1. #52haikus2020 challenge and #chaïku: I will continue to post one haiku a week on social networks for each of these challenges. To save myself some time, I will also compile the haikus weekly rather than wait till the end of the year to do so. I will evaluate weekly in terms of check or cross ( or X) for each subgoal.
    #52haikus2020 (on Wednesdays)
    – compile the above.
    #chaïku (on Saturdays)
    – compile the « chaïkus ».
  2. New novella Ophelia’s Boudoir: I will edit and revise, probably in Round 2.
  3. Little Black Riding Hood (LBRH) and ensuing saga: I will aim at finishing the first draft during this Round. Then I will reread and make the first revisions during Round 2 or 3. Finally I will move on to planning the second volume in more details, and hopefully start writing it. (I might plan the beta-reading but the final revisions will have to wait until I’m finished writing the whole saga).
WEEKLY GOAL: Reach 93% next Sunday. Roughly on time, though I normally switch to sprint mode at this stage. I want to, but just don’t have the time or energy…
Finish first draft: 92.5/101 chapters (91.5%)
Reread and edit (1st revisions: coherence check): 0/103 chapters (0%)
Find beta-readers for the long run.
    – Plan the second volume in detail.
  4. À tâtons (Feeling the Way), an erotic novel: After completing LBRH (and editing Curiouser and Curiouser), I will start writing the first draft, so normally during Round 2. During Round 1, I will check the plan and enrich it.

    – First draft translation
    – Revised translation
    – Final translation

Personal goals

  1. House renovation & redesign: We will work to improve our finances then focus on insulation and finishing what’s been started.
Extra color code for the insulating project. Plus what needs to be done before is this indigo.
x Keep working on the parental suite upstairs
(ceiling, walls, floor). We will finish the bathroom in January or February or March.
x Take care of the leak problem.
We will ask the roofer for the paper until we get it, then get the insurance to do their job. We finally met with both the roofer and the neighbor so things should get done now.
x Add walls and a door to the new toilets.

    >INSULATING QUEST:
x Insulate the wall in the family room where a fireplace used to be.

x Insulate the unused fireplace in the office.
    x Insulate Hubby’s office.
x Replace the porch doors and entrance door.
x Check the roof of the annex and replace its window.
    x Insulate the annex.

x Rebuild the wall between the family room and the garage.

x Bury the water evacuation pipe that’s in the yard.
x Finish the electricity in the garage and annex.
x Expand the laundry room into the garage we don’t really use and make a gaming and working out room in there.

  2. Unpacking & decluttering: I will just try and unpack things as other rooms get ready. We will also sell or donate baby stuff and other things we don’t use anymore. But this will have to wait until my full recovery.
    Here my short-term goals are:
x Decide what to sell, donate or keep in the storage room.
x Put what we’re selling on the French equivalent of Craigslist.
    x Donate the rest ASAP.
x Reorganize the storing room (so far it’s been « as is »: we arrive and put things where we can…)
x Clean the entrance porch (because that’s where we’d like to put coats and stuff for sale)
x Get rid of more clothing, especially bras I’m never going to wear anymore because underwire is definitely out of the way!
  3. Health quest: I will give myself a cooler month in January and rest as much as I can, then I will set my goals according to how things go. Since I can’t really work out for 3 months after the operation, I will go back to fitness and yoga during the second Round. I will evaluate weekly in terms of check or cross ( or X) for each subgoal; a check means over 50%.
    Get some rest:
~ meditate at least 3 minutes on workdays (Wed through Sat).
~ nap when the girls do (Sat through Tues).
    Take care of myself:
~ hair: brush twice a day for luster.
    ~ skin: moisturize daily.
~ skin: use lotion before bed.
    Be active:
~ do something related to cleaning or decluttering every Sunday morning.
~ walk in the neighborhood at least once between two check-ins.
  4. Mental health quest: I’ll just record things for further reference.
Week 7: Some uncle tried to contact me, I’m guessing about my estranged mother. At first I thought I had ignored it, but it came back to me along with a drowning nightmare this morning. I faced it, accepted the tears, and even drafted a message for the one person who respected my feelings in the estrangement process to pass on that I want to be left alone. So not a great start for the day but I’m glad I could handle it reasonably enough and move on to my routine. That is a progress per se!
Week 6: Insomnia; one panic attack.
    Week 1-5: NTR.

#ROW80 – 2020 – Round 1 – Check-in 12

ROW80 2020 – Round 1 – Twelfth check-in

Hi everyone!

I ended up having a rather productive week, though I had to readjust a lot to deal with unexpected stuff (mostly technical issues).

I find it strange how, sometimes, I manage to do more when I’m very busy than when I have plenty of time. I don’t procrastinate too much, so at some point I just get the feeling there’s so much I can do in one day for a given goal. Or maybe the sense of having no time makes me more effective…

How about you? Do you sometimes get that feeling that you do more when you actually have less time? Let me know in the comments! I hope you’re well, wherever you are. ^^

Hubby talked to the neighbor to get the insurance papers ready. They’ll meet us tomorrow when the roofer is around.
x Add walls and a door to the new toilets.

    >INSULATING QUEST: Now waiting for the quote from the plasterer.
x Insulate the wall in the family room where a fireplace used to be.

x Insulate the unused fireplace in the office.
    x Insulate Hubby’s office.
x Replace the porch doors and entrance door.
x Check the roof of the annex and replace its window.
    x Insulate the annex.

x Rebuild the wall between the family room and the garage.

x Bury the water evacuation pipe that’s in the yard.
x Finish the electricity in the garage and annex.
x Expand the laundry room into the garage we don’t really use and make a gaming and working out room in there.

Week 6: Insomnia until Thursday and one panic attack, but I’m better now.
    Week 1-5: NTR.

#ROW80 – 2020 – Round 1 – Check-in 11

ROW80 2020 – Round 1 – Eleventh check-in

Hi everyone!

So we had our anniversary celebrations. Hubby had planned a romantic getaway in a B&B near the sea. Unfortunately, storm Chiara was there too, so we just checked the beach quickly and mostly stayed in our room (which had a hot tub, so it was actually pretty cool).

We did stick to the original plan of having our lunch and dinner at restaurants, even if finding an open restaurant out of season and during a storm on a Sunday evening was not the easiest. But in the end we discovered a nice little place that has great burgers, so it was for the best.

The only problem was spending the night. The room was beneath the roof and so the wind made the wood creak all night. I ended up having insomnia, but I used that to finalize my translation of We Missed Each Other, so it was not all bad.

Even if we did not rest as much as Hubby had hoped and planned, it was really nice to be just the two of us for a couple of days.

As far as my goals are concerned, I’m doing surprisingly ok considering I took most of Monday off after all.

But I need to adjust because I realized this morning the nanny took a week off, which means Hubby and the girls are around every day, so voicing over is out of the question. Since I’m quite behind on editing and uploading, this is quite a relief: I wouldn’t have been able to record anyway, so after all, not having prepared a new lesson to voice over tomorrow is just fine. I’ll prepare 3 lessons for next week instead.

Also, I’m coming up with a cold, which makes me less efficient in stuff that requires gray matter and/or focus… But I’m not too bad at planning, so I guess I’ll plan some more for the next couple of days.

How about you? What is still OK when you’re not 100%? Let me know in the comments! I hope you’re well, wherever you are. ^^

Color code
red=0-9%
1025%
2645%
4659%
Over 60%, I use various shades of green, 100% being this flashy green.
Teal is for weekly goals, which I will evaluate as I go with a or X.
Purple is for projects that are currently on hiatus: dark purple means there’s still a lot to do while mauve is for projects that are well advanced.

WEEKLY GOAL: catch up and reach 90% by Sunday evening.

Translating goals

My general goal here is to wrap up the translations I did in 2019 then move on to new translations during the second semester.

  1. The Dragon’s Secret (English to French): I will revise my translation this year, aiming at publishing it next year (and also use it as a model for my MOOC on self-publishing).
    – Revised translation: 0/19 chapters (0%)
    – Final translation: 0/19 chapters (0%)
  2. Red Hot Springs: I will complete the revisions during this round.
  3. We Missed Each Other: I will complete the revisions during this round.
WEEKLY GOAL: I will reach 70%.
I had an insomnia at the B&B because of the storm, so I revised the whole translated short story.

    – Final translation: 10/10 chapters (100%) – completed Feb, 10
  4. Cruel Fairy Tales: I will start translating during the summer.
    – First draft translation 0/14 sections (0%)

    – First draft translation
    – Revised translation
    – Final translation

Personal goals

  1. House renovation & redesign: We will work to improve our finances then focus on insulation and finishing what’s been started.
Extra color code for the insulating project. Plus what needs to be done before is this indigo.
x Keep working on the parental suite upstairs
(ceiling, walls, floor). We will finish the bathroom in January or February or March.
x Take care of the leak problem.
We will ask the roofer for the paper until we get it, then get the insurance to do their job. Hubby talked to the neighbor to get the insurance papers ready.
x Add walls and a door to the new toilets.

    >INSULATING QUEST: We had the appointment yesterday and are waiting for the quote. The plasterer seemed good and really listened to what we had to say while providing his expertise, so we probably found the right guy.
x Insulate the wall in the family room where a fireplace used to be.

x Insulate the unused fireplace in the office.
    x Insulate Hubby’s office.
x Replace the porch doors and entrance door.
x Check the roof of the annex and replace its window.
    x Insulate the annex.

x Rebuild the wall between the family room and the garage.

x Bury the water evacuation pipe that’s in the yard.
x Finish the electricity in the garage and annex.
x Expand the laundry room into the garage we don’t really use and make a gaming and working out room in there.

  2. Unpacking & decluttering: I will just try and unpack things as other rooms get ready. We will also sell or donate baby stuff and other things we don’t use anymore. But this will have to wait until my full recovery.
    Here my short-term goals are:
x Decide what to sell, donate or keep in the storage room.
x Put what we’re selling on the French equivalent of Craigslist.
    x Donate the rest ASAP.
x Reorganize the storing room (so far it’s been « as is »: we arrive and put things where we can…)
x Clean the entrance porch (because that’s where we’d like to put coats and stuff for sale)
x NEW GOAL: Get rid of more clothing, especially bras I’m never going to wear anymore because underwire is definitely out of the way!
  4. Mental health quest: I’ll just record things for further reference.
Week 6: The insomnia came back last week but I could manage. Last night, however, it was coupled with a panic attack.
    Week 1-5: NTR.

#ROW80 – 2020 – Round 1 – Check-in 10

ROW80 2020 – Round 1 – Tenth check-in

Hi everyone!

This weekend is our first wedding anniversary and ninth couple anniversary so we’re having a break from daily routine! The girls are with family and we decided not to cook anything but breakfast for the weekend.

Yesterday, Hubby had a first surprise for me: a romantic dinner at one of our favorite restaurants. I had figured it out because he had asked me earlier this week to trust him that we should keep the Saturday morning nanny rather than bring both girls to family on Friday night.

I thought that was it, until one of the teachers’ assistants asked for confirmation our eldest would not be at school on Monday. Of course I tried to ask, but he was all mysterious about it.

After that, I had a couple of other clues:

  • his grandparents wished us a happy romantic escape when we dropped our youngest,
  • his mom took an extra day off to look after our eldest,
  • and when I asked whether we were sleeping at home yesterday night, he replied « tonight, yes » (then made the cutest « oops-face » ever as he realized he had given something away).

So for now, I know we’re leaving for lunch and not coming back until tomorrow. I also know there was probably some outdoor plan because Hubby’s mom was concerned about the storm that was forecasted for today.

Obviously, with all this going on (and baby girl not wanting to nap for some reason yesterday afternoon), I’m a little behind on schedule. Totally worth it, but I never expected him to plan a full weekend, so I pictured myself having some time to work on my goals.

I’m using this morning to readjust my goals a little. For instance, I will probably aim at wrapping up only 1 online lesson this coming week (2 if I can catch up on writing before Wednesday). Technically, I could probably do 4 a week and thus catch up next week, but I had so many problems voicing over on Thursday I won’t even try that: for some reason, once in about 8 times, the sound is just not there at the end of a recording session… I’m using PowerPoint for Mac and as usual I’m cross at Microsoft for their inconstant work for Mac users, but Keynote does not offer the feature I want, which is export to video — at least, from what I’ve seen, it doesn’t.

I do have several Windows alternative at home, but my old laptop is getting too slow and really doesn’t deal well with videos. As for Hubby’s brand new PC, when he’s not working on it already, well it’s not mine, first of all, which means transferring data (also time-consuming), and also it’s a desktop, and I must confess I enjoy getting out of the office at some point to work on this.

So I have to say I was sick of voicing over on Thursday night and I have been slower on uploading as a result. I’m doing OK with my other goals, except the novel since I thought I would complete a chapter yesterday and got no chance to do so, which was mostly because the week was a bit too busy in the end, not only because there was a surprise.

One last thing here: I’m thinking of adding a weekly goal for each of my goals from now on (except the ones that are basically made on a weekly basis of course). I’ll use this teal color to signal them and I’ll also evaluate in terms of PASS or FAIL but with or X. I guess the passing point will depend each time.

How about you? Any technical problems that made you sick and tired of a goal at some point? Let me know in the comments! Anything to celebrate lately or anytime soon? I hope you’re well, wherever you are. ^^

Color code
red=0-9%
1025%
2645%
4659%
Over 60%, I use various shades of green, 100% being this flashy green.
Teal is for weekly goals, which I will evaluate as I go with a or X.
Purple is for projects that are currently on hiatus: dark purple means there’s still a lot to do while mauve is for projects that are well advanced.

I was hoping to get a little ahead this week, but in the end I’m rather a little behind.
WEEKLY GOAL: catch up and reach 90% by Sunday evening.
Finish first draft: 87.5/101 chapters (86.5%)
Reread and edit (1st revisions: coherence check): 0/103 chapters (0%)
Find beta-readers for the long run.
    – Plan the second volume in detail.
  4. À tâtons (Feeling the Way), an erotic novel: After completing LBRH (and editing Curiouser and Curiouser), I will start writing the first draft, so normally during Round 2. During Round 1, I will check the plan and enrich it.
Finalize the plan. 100% – completed yesterday, against all odds.
  5. Malice au Pays des Merveilles / Miss Chief in Wonderland, an erotica sci-fi series (of short stories or novella): After completing the first draft for À tâtons, I will go back to this series, hopefully during Round 3.

Writing Goals (work-related courses and so on)

    1. Upload my catalogue for workers: I will make sure the catalogue is up to date by the end of the Round. I will also prepare further additions for later.
WEEKLY GOAL: I will finish exporting existing courses to be ready either way. I will also send another email if I don’t get an answer to the ones I sent last week.

    2. Get the quality certification: I will plan my course of action during this round and start collecting data and implementing new processes/systemizing existing processes.
WEEKLY GOAL: I will work on the course of action and prioritize. I will also add at least 5 deadlines.

    3. Online courses: I will aim at completing the uploading of Hanashimashou module 1 and starting the beta-testing process during this Round or at the beginning of the next.
WEEKLY GOAL: I will upload the lessons from this week and add 1 more.

Make the English online course for beginners.
Upload/convert Hanashimashou – Module 1 for beta-testing: Voicing over was complicated by technical issues on Thursday, and quite frankly, 3 lessons was my limit. I could have done 4 but I’ll stick to 3 per week to keep sane. Well except next week, that is.

Translating goals

My general goal here is to wrap up the translations I did in 2019 then move on to new translations during the second semester.

    – Final translation: 0/19 chapters (0%)
  2. Red Hot Springs: I will complete the revisions during this round.

WEEKLY GOAL: I will reach 70%.

    – Final translation: 0/10 chapters (0%)

    – First draft translation

    – Final translation

Personal goals

  1. House renovation & redesign: We will work to improve our finances then focus on insulation and finishing what’s been started.
Extra color code for the insulating project. Plus what needs to be done before is this indigo.
x Keep working on the parental suite upstairs
(ceiling, walls, floor). We will finish the bathroom in January or February or March.
x Take care of the leak problem.
We will ask the roofer for the paper until we get it, then get the insurance to do their job.
x Add walls and a door to the new toilets.

x Insulate the wall in the family room where a fireplace used to be.

x Insulate the unused fireplace in the office.
    x Insulate Hubby’s office.
x Replace the porch doors and entrance door.
x Check the roof of the annex and replace its window.
x Insulate the annex. Waiting for the appointment on Tuesday to wrap up the preparations, hopefully.

x Rebuild the wall between the family room and the garage.

x Bury the water evacuation pipe that’s in the yard.
x Finish the electricity in the garage and annex.
x Expand the laundry room into the garage we don’t really use and make a gaming and working out room in there.

    Week 1-5: NTR so far.

#ROW80 – 2020 – Round 1 – Check-in 9

ROW80 2020 – Round 1 – Ninth check-in

Hi everyone!

Having finished the translation process from French to English for several books, I’ve started thinking about beta-reading.

In French, I just turn to friends (having trust issues, it’s hard to do otherwise, though I’m considering one fellow-writer from social networks at the moment because I get the feeling she’s comfortable with giving brutally honest opinions). I also have English-speaking friends of course, and I reached out, but it’s been a while since we had an IRL interaction, so it feels a bit weird.

Mostly, I’d like a couple of native speakers to proof-read my texts because I have been living in France for a while and I’m concerned my English might be less natural than it used to be. Of course, I do speak and write in English on a daily basis, and needless to say, Netflix and the like are definitely in English too. But in the end, French is still the #1 language around us and I sometimes get the feeling it might influence the quality of my English in the long run…

Also I’m not entirely sure English and French audience have the same perception… I know I don’t read the same kind of stories in French and English… But at the same time, I can’t really « betray » the original story while adapting it to English. I mean, I have more liberty than a translator because the text is mine, so if I choose to change something, it’s not so much a mistranslation as a variation, but in the end, I will present it as the English equivalent of the French book, so it can’t exactly be rewriting either…

That’s why I’m thinking I need beta-readers and dread their feedback at the same time. I know, I should probably breathe a little and make up my mind…

How about you? Who do you turn to for beta-reading? Let me know in the comments! I hope you’re well, wherever you are. ^^

Color code
red=0-9%
1025%
2645%
4659%
Over 60%, I use various shades of green, 100% being this flashy green.
Purple is for projects that are currently on hiatus: dark purple means there’s still a lot to do while mauve is for projects that are well advanced.

Finish first draft: 86/101 chapters (85%)
Reread and edit (1st revisions: coherence check): 0/103 chapters (0%)
Find beta-readers for the long run.
    – Plan the second volume in detail.
  4. À tâtons (Feeling the Way), an erotic novel: After completing LBRH (and editing Curiouser and Curiouser), I will start writing the first draft, so normally during Round 2. During Round 1, I will check the plan and enrich it.
    Finalize the plan. 80%

Create a new account on the website. I might not have to after all; I sent an email and am waiting for a reply.
Export the courses from the previous account (the one with a mess-up): I started to do it but then I figured it would be wasted time if I don’t have to change accounts.
      Add the English courses.
      Add the Japanese courses.
      Add the French courses.
Prepare the future addition of English courses.
Prepare the future addition of Japanese courses.
Prepare the future addition of French courses.
Prepare the future addition of Computer & Media courses.
    2. Get the quality certification: I will plan my course of action during this round and start collecting data and implementing new processes/systemizing existing processes.
      self-assess with online tools.
      reflect on how to improve.
      reorganize my archives.
      locate proof for the audit.
create new processes and related doc.
have a meeting with Hubby regarding his future addition to the business and his technical part at the moment.
plan a course of action with deadlines.
    3. Online courses: I will aim at completing the uploading of Hanashimashou module 1 and starting the beta-testing process during this Round or at the beginning of the next.
Make a course about self-publishing (on Amazon) for this site.  (20%)
Make a welcoming MOOC on how to learn languages. (3%)
Make a MOOC on writing in Japanese.
Make a MOOC about karaoke-making for here.

Convert my placement tests for English and French into online tests.
Make the English online course for beginners.
Upload/convert Hanashimashou – Module 1 for beta-testing: Not at my best yet but doing much better than last week.

Then I will move on to planning other Story Times, probably for Round 3. RWBY (module 1) will have to wait since I don’t have students for that level at the moment and am really keen on re-testing the guide in class before publishing; on the other hand, I might start working on module 2. I will also draft the French version in Round 1.

x Expand the laundry room into the garage we don’t really use and make a gaming and working out room in there.

  2. Unpacking & decluttering: I will just try and unpack things as other rooms get ready. We will also sell or donate baby stuff and other things we don’t use anymore. But this will have to wait until my full recovery. No actual progress as far as the list is concerned but we did declutter the laundry room. I also found where to donate clothes and fabric today, so I’ll probably take care of these bags soon.
    Week 1-5: NTR so far.

#ROW80 – 2020 – Round 1 – Check-in 8

ROW80 2020 – Round 1 – Eighth check-in

Hi everyone!

As long as my list may already be, I will have to make it longer so that it fully reflects the whole range of goals I currently work on.

Basically, my business is becoming a bit crazy with 2 important goals that have to be my #1 priorities:

  • uploading my catalogue of training services for workers: there was a mess up with my account so I need to do that again though I already did last year… The good thing is now I know the platform and therefore can be more efficient and also make better entries for the catalogue. This needs to be done before the Round ends so it will probably impact the rest of my goals.
  • getting a quality certification: I have a little more time as I plan to be audited over the summer or in October at the latest. But it also requires a lot of work and planning.

So I will add these goals here, mostly to help me see my progress and help me sleep at night.

They’ve been on my mind a lot this week and I realized they were the reason why I di not always meet my daily goals, so I figured I might as well include them in the big plan rather than have them stand in the way. Thus, I can have more realistic expectancies for my week.

Another thing that sometimes keeps me from working on my goals is that I always find new ideas.

On Thursday, for instance, I made the plan for yet another story… This is the third this year, and 2020 is only 4 weeks old…

It’s funny how I used to think I would have lost inspiration at some point, and now I wonder whether I will be able to write all the stories I have in mind one day.

If only there was an app or something to take what’s in our minds and turn it into a plan or a text. Speech-to-text is a good improvement for many people (not me, turns out I write faster than I talk…) but a thought-to-text would just be the thing, wouldn’t it?

Anyway, enough rambling… Let’s take a look at those goals and the progress made!

How about you? Do you sometimes fear you won’t ever have enough of a lifetime to write al you have in mind? Or maybe to read all you’d like to read, or do some other creative stuff? Let me know in the comments! I hope you’re well, wherever you are. ^^

Personal goals

  1. House renovation & redesign: We will work to improve our finances then focus on insulation and finishing what’s been started.
Extra color code for the insulating project.
x Keep working on the parental suite upstairs
(ceiling, walls, floor). We will finish the bathroom in January or February or March.
x Take care of the leak problem.
We will ask the roofer for the paper until we get it, then get the insurance to do their job.
x Add walls and a door to the new toilets.

x Insulate the wall in the family room where a fireplace used to be.

x Insulate the unused fireplace in the office.
    x Insulate Hubby’s office.
x Replace the porch doors and entrance door.
x Check the roof of the annex and replace its window.
x Insulate the annex. We have an appointment tomorrow to get a quote for all the insulation stuff and roof.

x Rebuild the wall between the family room and the garage.
It’s basically threatening to collapse and it’s making the room colder than it should be so we’re going to replace that ASAP.  Definitely needs to be done before the insulating comes.
x Bury the water evacuation pipe that’s in the yard.
x Finish the electricity in the garage and annex. Probably best to do so before insulating.
x Expand the laundry room into the garage we don’t really use and make a gaming and working out room in there.
Also needs to be done before the insulating comes.
    Be active:
~ walk in the neighborhood at least once between two check-ins.
  4. Mental health quest: I’ll just record things for further reference.
    Week 1-4: NTR so far.

#ROW80 – 2020 – Round 1 – Check-in 7

ROW80 2020 – Round 1 – Seventh check-in

Hi everyone!

On Monday, I had my post-op appointment with the surgeon. She confirmed the operation was necessary (though there was nothing on the ultrasound and PET-scan, she did find the pathology she expected and, thankfully, nothing cancerous) and also that I had fully recovered from it.

So we parted, saying we hoped we would never need to meet again.

I was smiling as I got out because she lifted absolutely every restriction I had had until then since my scarring went perfectly well. I can finally go back to a normal life!

Needless to say, that was a nice push to kick off the week! =D

As far as my goals are concerned, I did manage to catch up on my writing schedule and now I’m hoping to get a little ahead, all because I’m finally excited about revising Curiouser and Curiouser.

After completing it, I needed some time away from the story, but going back there with a couple of beta-readers for their feedback was nice and made me want to start editing immediately.

I’ll stick to the plan however, and will first finish the first draft for Little Black Riding Hood.

Last time, I was having problems with my new tool, Adazing, but I contacted the team and they fixed it, so I’m still exploring the « Author Lab » as they call it.

Here’s a mockup for Curiouser and Curiouser (well, in French obviously, I still haven’t started translating it to English):

I’ve also tried their designer app to try and make a Facebook banner and a cover (still in French) for Little Black Riding Hood:

As I’m no good with Photoshop and the likes of it (I know I could learn from Hubby at some point, but we both don’t have the time right now), it would take me much more time than it did with that tool to do it as I used to.

Of course this is just a trial for Volume 1 of Book 1, the incrustation of the hooded character should be better done, but I like their text tools and templates.

How about you? Are you a Photoshop (or Gimp or whatever software you favor) wizard or do you welcome this kind of tools? Or maybe you entrust your covers to someone else? Let me know in the comments! I hope you’re well, wherever you are. ^^

    ~ Release the paperback versions.

I got one reply, verging on the yes provided I can make a mobi rather than a pdf; since there’s a tool to do so in the Author Lab by Adazing, I guess it’s time to try that now! The reviewer would also be keen on reading and reviewing Rumples and doing an interview with me, so this is looking good. As for the one that I could not contact, she does not seem to be very active; I’ll give myself (and her) a week or 2 before deciding. 4/5 (80%)

  4. De surprise en surprise (my first novel, French only; English title: Curiouser and Curiouser): I’m hoping to release in the summer, which is adequate as it’s an important season for the story and it’s also when most of it was written. Plus that would allow me to join Amazon’s « Plumes Francophones » contest. To be released on June, 23 (probably). In this Round, I’ll make sure every beta-reader has started the book.

My general goal here is to wrap up the translations I did in 2019 then move on to new translations during the second semester.

  1. The Dragon’s Secret (English to French): I will revise my translation this year, aiming at publishing it next year (and also use it as a model for my MOOC on self-publishing).

  6. Rotten (once the 2nd edition is ready only): I will try and start translating after the French version is released.
    – First draft translation
    – Revised translation
    – Final translation

Personal goals

  1. House renovation & redesign: We will work to improve our finances then focus on insulation and finishing what’s been started.
Since we have a new project thanks to a new funding, I’ll add a color to the code only to signal what became part of this. Considering all the colors I already use, it’ll be this brownish orange (called « burnt orange »). One thing is sure, the money won’t be there before May, so the only progress we can make until then is in terms of paperwork and preparations.
x Keep working on the parental suite upstairs
(ceiling, walls, floor). We will finish the bathroom in January or February or March.
x Take care of the leak problem.
We will ask the roofer for the paper until we get it, then get the insurance to do their job.
x Add walls and a door to the new toilets.

x Insulate the wall in the family room where a fireplace used to be.

x Insulate the unused fireplace in the office.
    x Insulate Hubby’s office.
x Replace the porch doors and entrance door. We’ve got the quote.
x Check the roof of the annex and replace its window.
x Insulate the annex. We have an appointment on Monday to get a quote for all the insulation stuff and roof.

x Rebuild the wall between the family room and the garage.
~ nap when the girls do (Sat through Tues).
    Take care of myself:
~ hair: brush twice a day for luster.
    ~ skin: moisturize daily.
~ skin: use lotion before bed.
    Be active:
~ walk in the neighborhood at least once between two check-ins.
  4. Mental health quest: I’ll just record things for further reference.
    Week 1-4: NTR so far.

#ROW80 – 2020 – Round 1 – Check-in 6

ROW80 2020 – Round 1 – Sixth check-in

Hi everyone!

It’s been one of those weeks when small things kept getting in the way. Most of them were good, so I did not really mind, but I did not manage to catch up as far as writing is concerned. Thankfully, next week is not too busy and I should finally get back on track.

But before that, I have a doctor’s appointment tomorrow to see if everything is as it should be after the surgery. I’m pretty confident it is and I look forward to steadily going back to a normal life and activities.

This week, I also decided to try Adazing‘s marketing tools. I’ve been using their free mockups for a while now and thinking of getting the pro version. Now I have it, there’s a glitch and I can’t even get one mockup… A good things there’s a 30-day refund policy, just in case they can’t fix that problem. But right now, I’m exchanging emails about it with them so I hope we can find what’s wrong.

In the meantime, I’ve taken a look at the cover design tool, which is cool without being revolutionary. I’ll keep using it all and see, but if I can’t get those mockups, I might just switch back to using the free tool and my picture editing software instead.

How about you? Have you ever used Adazing (free or pro version)? What do you think? Do you know of any equivalent offers? I hope you’re well, wherever you are. ^^

Color code
red=0-9%
1025%
2645%
4659%
Over 60%, I use various shades of green, 100% being this flashy green.
Purple is for projects that are currently on hiatus: dark purple means there’s still a lot to do while mauve is for projects that are well advanced.

Still a little behind schedule but I managed to do some damage control over the week. Another thing that motivates me is getting beta-readers’ feedback on Curiouser and Curiouser because I want to start editing soon. So those missing 24% will not get in the way!
Finish first draft: 77/101 chapters (76%)
Reread and edit (1st revisions: coherence check): 0/103 chapters (0%)
Find beta-readers for the long run.
    – Plan the second volume in detail.
  4. À tâtons (Feeling the Way), an erotic novel: After completing LBRH (and editing Curiouser and Curiouser), I will start writing the first draft, so normally during Round 2. During Round 1, I will check the plan and enrich it.
    Finalize the plan. 80%
  5. Malice au Pays des Merveilles / Miss Chief in Wonderland, an erotica sci-fi series (of short stories or novella): After completing the first draft for À tâtons, I will go back to this series, hopefully during Round 3.

Plus that would allow me to join Amazon’s « Plumes Francophones » contest. To be released on June, 23 (probably). In this Round, I’ll make sure every beta-reader has started the book. I planned when to edit after talking to my beta-readers, which motivated me a lot.
    – get feedback from beta-readers: I had a debriefing session with one of my beta-readers yesterday and I should get another one’s feedback today. The final beta-reader started reading later than the other 3 and is about 10% through. 2/4 (50%)

    – Final translation: 0/19 chapters (0%)
  2. Red Hot Springs: I will complete the revisions during this round.

Personal goals

  1. House renovation & redesign: We will work to improve our finances then focus on insulation and finishing what’s been started.
x Keep working on the parental suite upstairs
(ceiling, walls, floor). We will finish the bathroom in January or February or March.
x Take care of the leak problem.
We will ask the roofer for the paper until we get it, then get the insurance to do their job. Since we need him for more work, we’ll ask him to come and give us a quote and bring the paper for the insurance at the same time. Also, I spoke with the neighbor about it; he said they were noticing similar problems and seemed pretty unsurprised and willing to do whatever would prove necessary, so that’s good news.
x Add walls and a door to the new toilets.

x Insulate the wall in the family room where a fireplace used to be. That could be taken care of as part of our new insulation project.

x Insulate the unused fireplace in the office. Same here.

x Rebuild the wall between the family room and the garage.
It’s basically threatening to collapse and it’s making the room colder than it should be so we’re going to replace that ASAP.
x Bury the water evacuation pipe that’s in the yard.
x Finish the electricity in the garage and annex.
x Expand the laundry room into the garage we don’t really use and make a gaming and working out room in there.
If we move on with the insulation project the way we hope, this could be done sooner than later.
  2. Unpacking & decluttering: I will just try and unpack things as other rooms get ready. We will also sell or donate baby stuff and other things we don’t use anymore. But this will have to wait until my full recovery.
    Here my short-term goals are:
x Decide what to sell, donate or keep in the storage room.
x Put what we’re selling on the French equivalent of Craigslist.
    x Donate the rest ASAP.
x Reorganize the storing room (so far it’s been « as is »: we arrive and put things where we can…) I’ve been dying to do that for a while… As soon as I get the doctor’s approval and time, I’ll try to take a look.
x Clean the entrance porch (because that’s where we’d like to put coats and stuff for sale):
Back on better tracks.
    Get some rest:
~ meditate at least 3 minutes on workdays (Wed through Sat).
~ nap when the girls do (Sat through Tues). X
    Week 1-3: NTR so far.

#ROW80 – 2020 – Round 1 – Check-in 5

ROW80 2020 – Round 1 – Fifth check-in

Hi everyone!

My last post was on Sunday morning, just as we started a nice but crazy day.

Originally, we were only supposed to visit some family in the afternoon and go to the cinema in the evening to finally see the final episode of Star Wars (normally, this is more of a holiday tradition because Hubby’s a huge fan, but with my surgery, we had to postpone it this time); in the end, we left home in the morning to go to the swimming pool with the girls and their aunt and uncle, then all had lunch together, before we did what was on the original plan, plus a family diner as a bonus.

Needless to say, we came back home later than usual and quite tired, but it was nice to have a day like that, just seeing people we love and spending quality time together.

As a result, I’m having a slow start of week, with lots of catching up to do. A good thing I switched to another organization after going back to work because I would definitely not have been able to write a chapter every day.

My work goals are OK. I’m regular on the online course stuff, though I found a way to organize things better only today. As a result, I did not work so much on the Story Time series today. But I did do some reorganizing there too, in the hope I’ll be more efficient with Bat and Friends next Wednesday.

How about you? When was the last time you had a nice crazy day? What did you do then? I hope you’re well, wherever you are. ^^

Over 60%, I use various shades of green, 100% being this flashy green.
Purple is for projects that are currently on hiatus: dark purple means there’s still a lot to do while mauve is for projects that are well advanced.

I fell a little behind over the weekend because we decided to have a fun Sunday but that was totally worth it. Since I’m in the middle of a dense part, the chapters are a bit longer than usual (I might redivide at some point), so catching up is a bit challenging but it seems possible.
Finish first draft: 76/101 chapters (75%)
Reread and edit (1st revisions: coherence check): 0/103 chapters (0%)
Find beta-readers for the long run.
    – Plan the second volume in detail.
  4. À tâtons (Feeling the Way), an erotic novel: After completing LBRH, I will start writing the first draft, so normally during Round 2.

Writing Goals (work-related courses)

    1. Online courses: I will aim at completing the uploading of Hanashimashou module 1 and starting the beta-testing process during this Round or at the beginning of the next.
Make a MOOC about self-publishing (on Amazon) for this site. (20%)
Make a welcoming MOOC on how to learn languages. (3%)
Make a MOOC on writing in Japanese.
Convert my placement tests for English and French into online tests.
Make the English online course for beginners.
Upload/convert Hanashimashou – Module 1 for beta-testing: Since I changed my organization, I’ll add the preparation step to my subgoals to see the progress there too. I will also make a checklist to keep track of things since there were some confusions today when I moved on to voicing over.
~ Input the text content in the sections:
      17/17 parts in section 4

~ Input the text content in the sections. 0/24 sections (0%)
      ~ Add the audio/video content: 0/24 sections (0%)
    2. Story Time series (teaching guides): I will wrap-up Bat and Friends this Round and hopefully get back to Goldilocks too.

#ROW80 – 2020 – Round 1 – Check-in 4

ROW80 2020 – Round 1 – Fourth check-in

Hi everyone!

So, I officially went back to work this week (not full time though). This means my weekly goals changed: from a daily chapter in LBRH, I will now aim at 3 chapters a week. I’m confident about the weeks to come since I’m working only about half time. I might readjust later.

It’s funny because I’m objectively a long way through the first draft (75%) but at the same time I have the feeling that there is so much more to write. And I’m not talking about the saga, just this first volume. I guess it’s because I need to lay bases for many things that I will develop later. Plus fantasy requires much more attention than realistic writing in terms of being coherent.

I know I have many things to revise already. Like how I made the magic and world evolve, or even how I decided to call some professions.

For that reason, I’m glad I ended up writing a novel set in our reality first. It gave me at least one good habit: write for now, revise later! Before completing De Surprise en surprise, I think I rewrote the beginning of Little Black Riding Hood at least four times. Then I tended to get discouraged by the tantalizing task of completing the novel, especially as I did work on it but made no visible progress in terms of word or chapter count.

I still see myself as a « young » writer. Because, even though I’ve been writing since I was 7 or 8, I actually started doing it with a professional approach quite recently. So I know my style and the way I work can still evolve, but I think I found a way to organize myself that really works in the sense that I can see the progress (and ROW80 has helped a lot too, by bringing some sense of accountability).

Recently, I’ve been thinking of some milestones in my writing, probably because I reread the first short story I ever submitted. Funny thing, it was around 2000 but I can’t tell exactly when. All I know for sure is that I was an undergrad student. The short story itself was hastily written, in a genre I absolutely did not master (and still haven’t — detective story), but for the first time, I shared what I wrote with the jury of the contest and people around me. Needless to say, I never heard from the publisher, but it was not so much about being published as being read. Before submitting that story, I mostly wrote very personal poetry and dark short stories. I had also started planning a novel in high school and I had done my research, but it all stayed a nice little project for later. Sending that faulty short story was the first step because I stopped writing for myself only.

After that, I joined some forums on writing and started joining challenges. That’s when I wrote a lot of short stories, some of which are still unpublished to this day (that might change in the coming years, after dusting them a bit). I also created a blog where I posted both short stories and poetry. That’s where and when I started Dark Black Eyes. I was not as organized as now, so I let this story develop with the flow, as I posted chapters more or less regularly. I can never be grateful enough for the few readers who patiently waited for chapter after chapter at an uneven pace. And commented! Those comments made my days and pushed me through. They gave me the confidence, a few years later, to self-publish the novella, which was the first of quite a few books now.

Other milestones were my joining ROW80 and setting goals rather than writing whenever I had the time and urge, creating this website and blog rather than sticking to my old one (I really should take care of deleting it properly one day…), and starting working on the marketing aspects of the job too, on social media, but not only. At some point too, I made it clear to Hubby that this was not a hobby, but something I wanted to do seriously and ever since I did, he has been a tremendous support.

It’s been a long journey for me who have always wanted to be a writer, but I’m glad I did things this way because now I’m in a good place both in writing, life, health and family. I think being able to finally complete a novel last year, when I was working on getting rid of the sources of stress that remained (my health problem mostly) after cutting toxic relationships off and reorganizing my lifestyle after the girls was born to have a better work/life balance is a tell-tale sign. I would not have it any other way now.

How about you? Do you consider yourself experienced or young as a writer?  I hope you’re well, wherever you are. ^^

Over 60%, I use various shades of green, 100% being this flashy green.
Purple is for projects that are currently on hiatus: dark purple means there’s still a lot to do while mauve is for projects that are well advanced.

Finish first draft: 75/101 chapters (74%)
Reread and edit (1st revisions: coherence check): 0/103 chapters (0%)
Find beta-readers for the long run.
    – Plan the second volume in detail.
  4. À tâtons (Feeling the Way), an erotic novel: After completing LBRH, I will start writing the first draft, so normally during Round 2. During Round 1, I will check the plan and enrich it.
    Finalize the plan. 80%
  5. Malice au Pays des Merveilles / Miss Chief in Wonderland, an erotica sci-fi series (of short stories or novella): After completing À tâtons, I will go back to this series, hopefully during Round 3.

Upload/convert Hanashimashou – Module 1 for beta-testing: Starting this weekend, I will try a new organization where I input the text and create the corresponding content Saturdays through Tuesdays and voice over Wednesdays through Fridays (that’s when the girls aren’t home so less risk of being interrupted). Editing and uploading can be done any day, so I think I’ll fit it whenever I have enough to work with.
~ Input the text content in the sections:
      18/18 parts in section 3
      (lesson 2) 100% – completed Jan, 17
      4/18 parts in section 4
      (lesson 3) 17%

      2.95/31 sections (9%)

~ NEW GOAL: Add content map visuals to each section to make the structure clearer to students. I recently realized I had forgotten that bit but I decided to keep moving on as this is not too time-consuming and can be done at any point, even while the course is being tested. 0/32 sections (0%)
~ Email LMS developers with pre-purchase questions before launching the course.
      ~ Find beta-testers: 1/??
      Upload/convert RWBY – Season 1 for beta-testing: ON HOLD until I’m done with Hanashimashou – Module 1.

      ~ Add the audio/video content: 0/24 sections (0%)

Personal goals

  1. House renovation & redesign: We will work to improve our finances then focus on insulation and finishing what’s been started.
x Keep working on the parental suite upstairs
(ceiling, walls, floor). We will finish the bathroom in January or February.
x Take care of the leak problem.
We will ask the roofer for the paper until we get it, then get the insurance to do their job.
x Add walls and a door to the new toilets.

x Insulate the wall in the family room where a fireplace used to be.

x Insulate the unused fireplace in the office.

x Rebuild the wall between the family room and the garage.

  2. Unpacking & decluttering: I will just try and unpack things as other rooms get ready. We will also sell or donate baby stuff and other things we don’t use anymore. But this will have to wait until my full recovery.
    Here my short-term goals are:
x Decide what to sell, donate or keep in the storage room.
x Put what we’re selling on the French equivalent of Craigslist.
    x Donate the rest ASAP.
x Reorganize the storing room (so far it’s been « as is »: we arrive and put things where we can…)
x Clean the entrance porch (because that’s where we’d like to put coats and stuff for sale):
    Week 1-2: NTR so far.
